[Bug?] Reproducable bad crash on very long line

Textpad 4.7.3 on Windows XP Pro.
When I open a file with all the 56 MB of text on one line (created by a programming error of mine), Textpad first gives a warning asking if I want to split the line. So far so good but right after that the screen goes black and returns in 256 colors with the message "ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped" and a reboot is required to restore it back to normal. The funny thing is everthing else, including the just opened file keeps working fine.
To exclude other causes I tried it again after the reboot (with this time much less other stuff running) and the same thing happened.
Did I stumble upon a bug in Textpad or is something else wrong?
