When I Minimized my file the UI goes away, in that there is no longer an ICON on the Taskbar or entry in the Task Manger Applications tab. There is however still a TextPad.exe process running. This is on a Dell D830 notebook running XP Professional SP2. Any ideas?

Are you sure you haven't got [Preferences - General - Minimize to the taskbar status area] checked and your taskbar set to hide inactive icons?
