I have been using TextPad for many years and I have always had the following question in the back of my mind. Why is the file information in the left hand side of the status bar cleared immediately after a document is saved or loaded?

If I open a file it displays this information. The moment I do anything in textpad it disappears. As far as I can remember TextPad has always done this and I can see that it is still the same in 5.2.0.

The only thing I can think of is that the same space is used for other things. For instance, hovering over menu displays "For Help, Press F1". However when I move away from the menu it is replaced with blanks, rather than the file status that was there previously.

The reason this is an issue for me is that we have a lot of problems with developers on different platforms and using different editors checking in files. The textpad feature to convert file formats is very useful in this regard as is the feature to convert tabs to spaces automatically. So seeing the format of files easily is very useful.

This boils down to 2 feature requests I suppose.

1. What I would like to see is the file status information restored to the status bar as default, not just when the file is initially loaded or saved.

2. The ability to specify default file format for all saves that would automatically convert to the specified format without prompting. This is sort of like the feature to convert tabs to spaces automatically.
