On-the-fly language syntax highlighting

That is, similar to the functionality in Notepad++ where with a new document you can choose a language from the Language menu and immediately apply its settings including syntax highlighting. I guess in TextPad this would be the equivalent of applying the document class settings without first having to save it with one of the supported extensions.

In the meantime, try doing File Rename to the desired extension/class.

Click into new document, then Alt-Return, then choose Syntax tab, select syntax file you want to apply.

Ah, you learn something new every day.

Still, it would be nicer if this could be done in fewer keystrokes, i.e., directly from a menu.

You might try making that into a macro and assigning a hot key.
