Document selector and file path displaying

One thing I've been missing for quite a while now is the ability to show only parts of the file path.
What I want is to show X amount of directories for the file. If I set it to 1, it would show "\dir\file.ext". If set to 2 it would of course be "\dir\dir\file.ext" and so on.
The reason for this is that sometimes in your workspace you have files with the same name but located in different directories. Having this option would allow you to more quickly locate the right file among files with the same filename.
Obviously you could just enable full path showing, but that just takes up way too much space when you only need to view 1 or 2 directories.
