full filename in the file's tab?

hi,
Is there a way to make the tab expand so that I can see the full filename? I often open files deep in a directory structure and can only see the the first part of the path to the file. I have to "mouse over" the tab to see which file is which. Tabs should use all available space. It's not cool to have 1 file open and not be able to see the filename
