Saving files in TextPad

I installed TestPad 5.0.2 recently, but one thing keeps annoying me. When I try to save a file (e.g. using the shortcut <alt> F S) that just have been saved, i.e. no changes have been made, the program beeps and the menu remains open. Previously TextPad (and other programs like Word) just did nothing without complaining. Is it possible to change this behaviour in the settings? Otherwise I'll recommend enabling this or changing the behaviour.

Have you tried using just <ctrl> S?

You are right - this works. Thank's for this hint. However, I would expect that <alt> F S has the same behaviour as <ctrl> S.[/quote]

This behavior (Alt+F s) no saving an unchanged document is annoying. What once worked...now doesn't. Seems to be a real trend with Textpad's latest version.

As Alt+F s is a standard way of saving files...I do not care to go to Ctrl+s as it doesn't work across all applications.

If the file is unchanged...IGNORE the fact that I just attempted to re-save.

I am curious about what standard you are referring to.

I am not aware of a menu key standard. Most (not all) of the programs I use have CTL-S for Saving, I can't recall using ALT-F.

In any case, you can use Keyboard assignments in TextPad to change to the keys that you prefer.

I agree that "ALT-F-S" could be called a standard since it works for most programs and the only difference using Textpad is that it doesn't work when the document is unchanged. I would also say that CTRL-S is just as much a standard since that work for almost every program as well. If you find CTRL-S to not work with a lot of the programs you use i'm curious what programs that is if ALT-F-S work for the same program.

While CTRL-S is a shortcut for save that is very common and a standard ALT-F is actually a shortcut to open the file menu and the S to choose the Save option from the menu. I never found ALT-F-S easier to use and if you get used to the more commonly CTRL-S i think you actually would prefer that option......that should also work with most windows programs just like ALT-F-S.
