Sometime over the past few weeks TextPad began opening the "Open Files Dialog Box" with a random sort order.
If I perform the following tasks.
1. Open TextPad from a Windows XP Pro desktop icon.
2. In the TextPad "Common Menu" Open File.
A Windows type dialog box opens displaying all the folders and files from the Root Directory, Root Directory is set in TextPad Preferences/Folders/Startup.
When TextPad displays the list of folders and files the folders are are grouped in folders and displayed in a random sort order, the files are also grouped in files and displayed in random order.
It used to sort both groups in alphabetical order. Folders first, then filenames.
How do I regain this sorting order when opening files?
It's a real pain to scroll through a hundred files and folders when an alpha sort can quickly fing the correct folder, or file.

Change the Dialog View to Details.
Sort by names, ascending order.
Change the Dialog View to List.
Thank you for your quick reply.
I, also thought this was a MS Windows function in sorting folders and files, but using MyComputer, My Documents, or Windows Explorer all those files and folders sort correctly.
I use several other programs that use a similar dialog box to navigate to a folder or file and they sort the files and folders correctly.
Your suggestion to correct the sort order works each time I open a file or folder in TextPad, but I have to go through that process every time I want to open another file or folder.
Any other suggestions within TextPad?
Michael
Please try implementing the following procedure:
Arrange your "My Documents" folder in Explorer, in alphabetical order, by clicking on "Name". It won't work, if you try doing this from within a dialog box in TextPad.
Next: From the Explorer Tools menu choose:
1. Folder options
2. View
3. From "Folder views", Click on " Apply to All Folders "
I hope this helps.

I had tried every option in Windows I could find, but missed the option of opening Windows Explorer to MyDocuments folder and setting the Folder Options from there.bbadmin wrote:Please try implementing the following procedure:

It works great, just like it used to work, TextPad is now sorting files correctly.
Thank you for your guiding hand, I know this is not a TextPad problem, but your support has made TextPad perform much better.
