4.73 randomly freezes on File / Save

For the last 2 weeks or so, TextPad 4.73 on Windows XP SP2 + all hotfixes, has started to randomly lock up after I do a File / Save.
One of the edited files that is saved, will having nothing but NUL bytes in it. As a result, I have to rename the .bak file, which is fine, and rename it to the original name, and re-enter my changes.
There appears no pattern to the lock ups. I've completely removed and reinstalled twice, but that didn't improved matters any.
All other programs work fine. I have run several rootkit/spyware apps, but my system appears to be clean.
Any ideas on how to fix this, short of reinstalling Windows?
