WildEdit - access to environment variables, etc.

I have a large number of files and I want to replace the placeholder strings "XXXXX" and "YYYYY" by the current <DIRECTORY> and <FILENAME> of the individual file being processed by WildEdit.

More generally, the ability to substitute the value of any environment variable (or other accessible system parameters, etc) would be most useful.

I can't find any help to indicate that WildEdit will currently do this, so am suggesting this as a useful enhancement.
