Reg file warning

Trying to open my entire reg file I get the warning :

'file.reg contains characters that do not exist in code page 1252 (ANSI - Latin1). They will be converted to the system default character, if you click OK'

This seems to happen only with the entire registry file, cos I have edited snippets from selected branches without getting that warning.

Its really not a show stopper as I would hardly work with the entire registry at any one time but its nice to know whats the story behind that in case I do have reason to.

And I do have a .reg document class with Unicode and UTF-8 BOM checked off (thanx to MudGuard).

The .reg file is a Unicode file. The explanation for how TextPad deals with Unicode files can be seen in the Help files.

From the Help menu choose:

1. Help Topics
2. Contents
3. Plus sign next to "How to"
4. Plus sign next to "Work with Files"
5. Unicode Files

Thnx.. I understand the gist of it but surely I am totally lost which font to use for .reg files so it opens correctly - currently its set to Courier New.

The issue here is that TextPad doesn't have full support for Unicode, therefore, as explained in the Help files, if the characters don't exist in the code page script that you have selected for the font, they cannot be displayed, so they will be converted into a system default character (normally "?").
