Tab Stops Handling

I edit many files that are column oriented.

Current operation:
Tab to a stop in INSERT mode: text between the cursor and the tab stop shifts right.

Tab to a stop in OVERLAY mode: text between the cursor and the tab stop disappears.

Would be nice if a tab mode was added to simply move the cursor to the next/previous tab stop without disturbing the text.
