"Count Number of Occurrences in Files" in WildEdit

Hello,

How about a "Count Number of Occurrences in Files" (without replace) in Wildedit? The program already provides this information in its Results window when a Replace command is executed, but it would be nice just to see the number of occurrences of the search text, without being forced to perform a Replace command. (TextPad does exactly this when the correct option is selected for the "Find in Files" command.)

...For now, I perform a "dummy" replacement to get a count of the number of occurrences of the search text in each file, and then Undo this command. It seems sloppy for me to have to do this, since the information is provided right there in the Results window anyways. The only difference is that in some cases I don't need to replace any of the text that is found.

Best regards,

Dan Nissenbaum

Instead of dummy Replace and then an Undo, I just do Replace with the same Search pattern and then there is no need to Undo.

Must ... drink ... more ... dirt cheap red grapes. Not getting enough flashes of the blinding obvious lately!

One problem with that: the files containing the search expression get "touched".

Any "make" or "ant" like tools applied to these files will then unnecessarily "make" stuff
