Auto Reload when an external process changes an opened file

I use Textpad for, amonst many other things, watching log files being updated.

It would be nice to have an option to prevent the "Reload it" dialogue being displayed each time the log is updated which can be very frequent.

Ideally, if the cursor is at the end of the file then the new information is added automatically and the cursor stays at the end of the file to allow the latest information to be seen.
But if the cursor is manually moved (e.g. a line is clicked) then the cursor stays where it is when the new information is appended. This allows a particular line to be read without it disappearing off the screen or a dialogue box being put over the top.

Cheers
Simon

Configure - Preferences - File
offers three choices under
"When files are modified by another program"

- Ask
- Auto-reload
- Ignore

Seems like you are looking for the Auto-reload option.

It would be nice if it was a document class setting, though.
And TP plays the default ding.wav each time it reloads a file, is there any way to shut this off?

Audible Alerts

(btw, why is audible alerts in the view preferences?  8))

I've seen that many times before, but never realized I could actually uncheck it ;-)

However this turns off *all* sounds, maybe TP could add separate entries in "Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Sounds | Program Events"?
