I purchased WildEdit today because I found it performed a regex replacement properly that TextPad did buggily.

I was quite happy with the batch processing of files, and the larger windows to enter the search and replacement expressions, a real problem I find with Textpad's replace dialog.

I think I would sometimes have use for a search-but-don't-replace funtionality, which some other users have mentioned. Haven't really thought through how the results should be returned.

I know too that being able to restrict operation to a single file in some easy fashion would be great (other than moving it out of my operative folder into a special just-for-it folder). Again, this is something others have wished for.

What I haven't seen is something I have wished for with Textpad -- a log of just the regular expressions I have used in my searches and in my replace operations. Sometimes it is days between performing similar operations and I'm not always clever enough to realize in advance that I'll be wanting to use a regex again.

<bump> I'd like to see this to, perhaps a drop down? I'm currently using TP's clip libs/books to collect regex's.

Hey, I'm in the exact same boat. I bought WildEdit without even trying it because I'm a longtime huge fan of TextPad, recommend it to everyone, etc.

Anyhow, I have used this old Search and Replace tool called SAR for many years. I kept the old version cos I didn't like the upgrades. The company is called Funduc and here's the URL: http://www.funduc.com/search_replace.htm

I'd _really_ like to see the find-only mode that can show matches just like this tool does. As it is, I can't use WildEdit, but I'll keep it around until/if this feature is introduced. Without the find-only you can't see the result of your damage, and I don't like entrusting myself to an undo.
