Bug in macro feature?

I've run into a problem with using macros, and I don't know if it's a bug, or if there's something I'm not doing.
To reproduce:
1) Start recording a macro.
2) For the macro action, include a tab. For example, (tab)This line starts with a tab(newline).
3) Stop recording and play back repeatedly.
Result:
Tabs aren't included in the playback.
Is there a setting to enable this, or is this a bug? The exact same steps work correctly in the MSVC++ 6 editor.

I can't reproduce your problem here - I recorded exactly what you described and I get the tab when I play back the macro.

Tabs (and Shift-Tabs) work OK for me in macros.
This topic probably doesn't belong in Enhancement Suggestions.
At least not until a real problem has been confirmed and a real need is identified.

Bob, Mudguard,
Thanks. I still get this problem, and I can't figure out why. Maybe there's a setting somewhere that can change this, but I can't see what it is.
Also, which forum was the correct one for reporting bugs?

Did you check out the
Check Convert New tabs to Spaces? See TP's help file under "How to Customize Tab Stops".
No firm rule on the "bug-forum", perhaps the General forum to discuss the possibility of a bug and then you can report it
here.

I've had this trouble for ages. I thought it had gone away with the new version, but it's back. It doesn't seem to be related to the setting of the "Convert new tabs to spaces" checkbox, since I just did a test and it's still happening. I'm a little frustrated that the TP developers aren't taking this one seriously; sure they can't reproduce it, but there are a lot of settings in TP, and any one of them could be causing this. Aren't there regression tests that help with with sort of thing?

Windows 2000, SP4 and all applicable hot fixes applied. TextPad 4.7.3
I recorded a macro as suggested
\t New line here \n and am unable to reproduce your findings. I applied it against my default document class and a mix of classes that preserve hard tabs, convert to soft tabs etc and in each instance I obtain the expected results. I repeated the same experiment on my work machine, W2k, no where near as patched and 4.7.2 with the same results.
Bat, I'm sorry you feel the developers are not taking this one seriously but unless there is some commonality to issues people are experiencing, it's challenging to say the least to track down random issues like this.
I would say that they've been responsive to issues based on the
release notes but to each their own. Feel free to report it but the culpability may not be entirely related to TextPad as Bob, MudGuard and I don't seem to have the issue.

I also would suggest that if the problem is not with TextPad that any number of regression testing will not be able to duplicate the problem. It would be impossible and cost prohibitive to provide exact duplicate environments of every OS, every pgm, environoment, memory, video settings, etc.
Have you tried to delete and/or make another macro using tabs in the same manner? There is also a site that has been used in the past to show the contents of TextPad macros. That was being used some time ago when some of us were trying to come up our own macro editor. I can't look right now, but try doing a search on this forum for edit macro, about 1-2 years ago. If you cannot locate it, mention it here, and I will try over the next few days to locate the URL for you. Perhaps someone else remembers the site?

I made the time to locate the link I had in mind.
I found the topic listed here:

The URL he provided was

chrisp can provide an update?
