Add numbers in selected text

I would like to be able to add numbers in selected text (subtract negative numbers) to get a sum. WordStar is the only editor or word processor that I know which does this. Word does it only for numbers in tables. It is especially useful for numbers in columns, which would be Block Select Mode for Textpad.

Somewhere (?) there is a suggestion to allow the passing of selected text to an arbitrary tool - a suggestion which I support and which would certainly solve your problem.

A way around would be to block mark the column and copy it in Excel.
