Textpad no longer works properly after upgrading to 4.7.2

Having used Textpad for many years, I frequently install new
versions as soon as they are available.
This time, bugs are introduced, so that Windows Explorer hangs if I use the right-button and c hoses "Textpad" in the menu to open a file.

Also, double-clicking a file no longer opens a new instance, which
is what I want (and have configured).

I am experiencing a similar problem:

OS: WinXP SP1 - all latest updates
TextPad Version: 4.7.2 using Full Install - no prior version on a fresh PC

Issue:
Open Windows Explorer
Select a file
Right-Click
Select TextPad from the Context Menu
Alt-Tab back to Windows Explorer

You can now not select any new files in that folder. Only the original file stays highlighted. It does appear to 'go away' if you leave the explorer window and do something else for a little bit (such as type this post).

Work-around:
To get windows explorer responding again I have to click on a folder from the tree on the left then I can click back on the original folder and right-click open from the context meny into textpad again.

Also:
Once you get the condition, if you try to right-click on another file in that folder, the context-menu will appear over the file you click but it will not be highlighted (selected) and choosing TextPad from the context menu does nothing - TextPad does not respond.

I've had the same problem before. The solution for me was to delete my temporary internet files. Try that and see if it works.

That suggestion did not work nnellans. I am still having the problems described above.

Switching to UltraEdit-32 for now...

Did you look at the "Known problems" forum? It's a short list and you're quick browsing through it in any case. I just posted some basic check's in a diffrent thread, perhaps that can help, see http://textpad.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=17145#17145 .
I'm using TP472 on XPsp1 w/all updates and I'm unable to produce this bug. My TP install was also on a "fresh" Windows install. I'm not running any anti-virus scanners in real-time, I just use the free-ones on the web with the now-almost-standard Ad-awere, SpyBot S&D, Stinger etc.
Pls note that since I'm unable to produce this bug I'm just guessing, so make sure you don't waste to much time on these tips. You can always contact Helios via their feedback page as a last resort. I've done so twice and they got back to me within hours in both cases. HTH

Please see the utility called "DDE Messages", on the URL below:

I hope this helps.

Using the new DDE removes the textpad context menu

Greetings,

I am also getting the "hang" problem when selecting a file from the context menu for use with Textpad.

When I copied the new dde dll, I followed the steps in first de-selecting the option for context menu, but when I am done and reselect the option the context menu option is no longer there.

In order to put TextPad on the Context menu, you will need to implement the following procedure:

From the Configure menu choose:

1. Preferences
2. General
3. Under the heading "Put shortcuts to TextPad on" check "Context Menu"
4. Click Apply / OK.

I hope this helps.

No context menu

Please ensure that you only have one instance of TextPad running when you uncheck "Context menu". It is the last instance to close that writes the information to the Registry.

Could you post the registry keys in question?

Greetings,

I assumed that this was a problem in the new dll.

If this is a registry issue could you post the registry keys in question?

Thanks in advance,

Dave
