Is DDE irrelevant, or is it worth figuring out?

I ask this because there are a few postings on this forum related to "how can I use DDE with Textpad" ... and virtually none of them is answered. The ones that *do* have responses are either off-topic, or point to some arcane reference somewhere out on the web.

The release notes for Release 4.7.1 mention this ... so *someone* has to be working on this:

Really? Is there a *simple* example of how to do this in Textpad? Is this only for die-hard C++ programmers? Is this a "pet-feature" that was tossed in for one specific person in the Federal Witness Protection program??

C'mon ... fess up. Is this a real feature? Can someone show a simple "Hello World" style example of this feature using Textpad with *anything*? Yes, I am asking *you* ... the person who mentioned this in the documentation. Who actually *uses* this???

Know nil on DDE, not in the WPP, look at the latest TP. (4.7.2)
I do support your humble request on a "Hello World" example though, preferably with a standard Windows application, Excel, Word etc.

If you will tolerate the blind leading the blind...I have this in use linking my data feed from e-signal to an Excel spreadsheet giving me constantly updated quotes that can then interact with other data to provide, for example, how much I am losing on such and such a stock at the moment. Programs announce what kinds of messages they can transmit and receive and they can then talk to each other. This used to be the thing you did in Office applications all the time, where you didn't place an object in the file of another program, you linked an object to it so that when it was updated in one program it was updated in another. (I still use this here and there). This is all from the receiving end. I don't know anything about how to write a message, which is what you are really asking, I guess.
