Annoying bugs in saving with hard line breaks

Post by smjg »

We seem to be missing a 'Bug Reports' forum - people are variously submitting them in 'General' or 'Enhancement Suggestions'.

Well, here's my contribution to the TextPad bug list:

1. When saving a file, it frequently adds line breaks to the end, leading to my HTML pages ending in several blank lines. To reproduce:

(i) Create a new file. Don't type anything yet. Save it into a document class set to save with hard line breaks.
(ii) Close and re-open the file.
(iii) Type some text, long enough to word-wrap. End with a hard line break.
(iv) Save it.

2. When the user presses Ctrl+End, under some conditions the window does not fully scroll to the bottom. This appears to occur mostly (if not exclusively) when I have deleted superfluous line breaks created by the above bug.

3. If the Save All command is used when document windows are maximized, and saving with hard line breaks is switched on, it saves documents other than the currently active one with the word wrap set to the unmaximized window width. This causes line breaks to be messed up.

Wow, this was posted over a year ago, but there doesn't seem to be any resolution. I am using 4.7.3, and I have the same problem (at least 1 and 2) which is driving me nuts!

I do not have to do step ii to recreate the problem. I can just start a new file with an extension of a type that saves hard line wrap breaks, type at least 1 line that line wraps, save, and it adds the mysterious extra blank line at the end. Type another paragraph, save, another mysterious extra line at the end. After a while, I have over 20 extra blank lines at the end of my file. If I delete those lines, then Textpad's concept of where the last line is gets totally confused (hitting ctrl-end makes the cursor go off the screen).

And in 10 days, it's going to be the 1 year anniversary when 4.7.3 was released. :(
