Syntax Hightlighting and Semi-Colon Character

I would like the ability to define the semi-colon as a character within the syntax definition file. The problem is that the semi-colon is the comment character for the definition files. Note also that this use is not documented in the Help file describing the syntax definition file.

Some way of escaping this character would be great. I suppose other methods are possible but this seems the simplest solution to me.
