I'm sure this has already been mentioned somewhere. ??

You can do a replace using "Selected text', why can't you (I) do a find using "Selected text' :?:
Hmmmmm :?:

In order to maximise the utility, perhaps the enhancement should be to implement a 'narrow' feature. You would select a block of text then invoke the 'narrow' action (from the View menu?). This would present the selected text as if it were the complete contents of the document. Any command (not just find) would now apply only to the presented portion of the document. When you've finished working on that section of the document, you'd invoke 'un-narrow' to make the whole file visible once again.

(NB. I used to use Emacs; it had something like this and was very useful.)

Edit: Here's a workaround
Requires the program Enabler
1) Select Text and goto the Replace dialog
2) Put info in the "Find what" field
3) Choose the selected text option
4) Notice that the "Find Next" button is grayed out
5) Use the Enabler program to un-gray the button and click it!
Note: If a match is found, it will be be highlighted/selected; so repeated searchs are difficult to accomplish.

I'm in the processing of updating some tools including one that performs a replace operation with scope = bookmarked lines. (It's somewhat slow, though.) Performing a serach operation with scope = selected text is probably similar to implement. Edit: It's on the to do list....

(Should be a poll)
