Overwriting read-only files

I've just been asked a question by another TextPad user regarding the way TextPad handles read-only files.

When one opens a read-only file it is not possible to edit it which is good. However another file can be saved over a read-only file with no more than the standard warning about replacing an existing file. Try the same in, say, MS Word and:
  • (a) You can make changes to the read-only file but not save them.
  • (b) If you try and save another file over a read-only file it won't let you do it.
I don't see this as a major problem, but wondered whether this is due to the way TextPad uses Windows to perform save operations. More importantly, is it possible to somehow tweak TextPad to prevent overwriting read-only files in this way.

Cheers,

Steve
