Trying to replace notepad with no success

I'm probably not using textpad the way most of you do, but here's my problem. I'm using a CAD software that calls another program for text editing. The computer started getting errors when it tried to open notepad, so I figured I'd try substituting textpad. Textpad is started fine, but it always asks if "OK to create C:\temp\XX" Where XX is a nuber. If I say yes, it opens a blank file, if I say no, it doesn't open a file. I've tried using the -s option, which doesn't help, I've tried the txplink, which gives same results. I've also tried the ddeopn32 textpad, but that just hangs. Any help would be appreciated.

Change the setting for
Allow multiple file names on command line
or configure your CAD software to use quotes around the file name.
