The filename, directory name, or volume syntax is incorrect

When trying to use my CS-RCS tools that use to work fine, I now receive a pop-up dialog (no title) with the words "The filename, directory name, or volume syntax is incorrect ".

I've checked that the program is entered OK, and the parameters/workdir

Anyone else seen anything similar?

I upgraded to version 4.7 (without deinstalling 4.6.x first), but the problem still remains.

The same sortcuts are used by other programs and work fine.

I am also having this problem with my Perl Tools after I did a Windows (NT4.0) Update. Uninstalled Textpad 4.7 and reverted back to 4.5 and it works.

I am seeing this on an NT4 machine as well. The system was working fine for quite some time, then this problem seemed to occur out of the blue. I was running version 4.6.2 I believe, but saw this problem after updating to version 4.7 in hopes it would clear up this problem. I have applied most if not all NT and IE security fixes to this machine. Tried disabling antivirus and a couple other apps with no luck.

I'm seeing this also after upgrading to 4.7
i find that when i switch the tool from directly running the program to running cmd.exe with the name of the tool in my case msxsl.exe it works

i think that there maybe sonething broken with textpad 4.7 or I don't understand when to use cmd.exe or directly call the program from textpad

any ideas????

Add me to the list. I just upgraded one of my users from NT 4.0 SP5 to NT 4.0 SP6 and now she gets this error whenever she tries to run a command via Run or any tool she creates. I've uninstalled a few times and have installed 4.7 but the same problem occurs. If I try to use Run and purposely enter an invalid filename, it says it can't find the file. However, if I enter a valid filename/path, it gives the error

"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

in a dialog and does not run the command.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

I was running fine with 4.7.... until I installed some security patches. Turns out that

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (823803) - version 1,10,101,0

is causing the problem... I uninstalled this patch and the problem has gone away.

We had the same patch installed so we uninstalled it, rebooted, and the problem went away.

Thanks very much for the help!

Anyone else getting the error:

"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

When Saving to UNC paths like

\\server\share\dir\file.ext

Opening works fine.
