File modified time not updated by textpad save

I am modifying a file using TextPad 4.62. The modified time on the file is not updated. I make the same modification using wordpad and the modified time is updated. The file is stored on a Novell network, I am running on Windows 2000.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a solution?

Please try altering the following setting:
From the Configure menu choose: Preferences/File, and change the option to "Overwrite original files directly, when saving changes" from its current setting.

This setting was checked. I unchecked it, and the file modified time was updated correctly. Is this consistenet with what you'd expect? Are there side-effects of this change?

This is the behaviour that I would expect, but the problem is not with TextPad, but with Netware.
When the setting to "Overwrite original files directly, when saving changes" is not checked, the file is saved to new file, the original file is deleted, and the new file is renamed. The only side effect of this, is that the original creator's name could be lost, if the file is edited by somone else.
