Friendlier Tab-Stops

I have to edit tab-delimited files quite regularly, and so I find the custom Tab-Stops to be very handy indeed. (RightClick/Properties/Tabulation)

However, I would love to have an easier way of defining the Tab-Stops, please.

:idea: Suggestion
Best thing I can think of would be a GUI solution: with a horizontal ruler where I can drag the tab-stops, add them, and remove them .. with the results being immeditately applied. This ruler doesn't have to impose on every open document .. perhaps it could be toggled on and off at will.

Yes, this is (still!) a much needed addition to TextPad. Here's a mockup of a possible ruler design (including the ever-common word break indicator suggestion):

Image

They're pretty standard, but the behaviours of the bar would be:

- Clicking on a blank space in the ruler would create a new tap stop at that column
- Dragging an existing tap stop (triangle) to another position on the ruler would reposition or merge that tab stop
- Dragging a tab stop away from the ruler would remove it
- Double-clicking on a tab stop would take the user to the Tabulation tab of the Properties dialogue box for the document

These would probably be best implemented as menu items in the View menu:

View -> Ruler
View -> Word Break Indicator

Obviously, they'd need to be disabled were a variable width font in use.
