I want to compile a java app but there is no compile option under the
tools menu option, only run.

When I select tools under
Configure | perferences
tools will not expand.

Note: OS - Win xp Pro
java:
1. installed java after textpad
2. set path to java and tested at the command line successfully
3. uninstalled textpad and installed a 2nd time

Question:
What do I have to do to compile a file with .java extension
if there is no compile option?

From Tools | Preferences menu

the tools option will not open because there are no tools added.
What is confusing is the (+) before tools.
The assumption is that if there is a (+) that there is some
level under the tools.

Short answer:
If pressing the + icon for tools does not open then there are no tools
installed...

This is confusing, and changeworthy, in my opinion. Submit this as a bug/design flaw to support, to officially request this.
