I would like to use the java23.syn syntax coloring file. I downloaded it into Textpad 4's Samples directory as directed but don't know how to override the existing java syntax coloring. I don't see a menu option to change the .syn file used and when I try to create a new "Java" file type (so as to overwrite the existing) it tells me "Java" already exists.

Did you look under Configure->Preferences->Document Classes->Java->Syntax?

There is a drop down menu into the default directory and a Browse button to select other files.

NOTE: You will have to reload any open files.
