Command screen while compiling and executing

Hello,
I am using TextPad 4.4.2 for writing Java programs with JSDK 1.3.1.
The OS is Win 2000.
While compiling the code, TextPad goes to the command mode i.e. the dark screen and on completion of the compilation, it returns back to Textpad. The same is true for executing the class files. The output is not displayed on the default Result File.
I have enabled the check bok for getting the output onto a new file in the Preferences - Tools option.
I have tried uninstalling the application and reinstalling it again. However the problem persists.
The support team at Textpad could not provide me with a solution to this problem.
