how to align text below prior line?

I frequently need to align text based on the starting column of a word (not the line start but word start) in a prior line and can't see an easy way to do it. I'd love a hot-key for this. Example:
vrb _myvar text
vrb _newvar text
Where the 2 words "text" align. Help?
Thanx

Have you tried using the TAB key?

Yes but Tab only moves the text to the next tab stop but does not necessarily align the text to the word above it in the prior line unless by coincidence your word above happens to be at the very next tab stop.

You can use custom tab stops in Textpad.
And of course you have to use tab stops in both lines for this to work.
