The status bar can tell you what column the cursor is in.

It would be nice if a ruler option was added in a future release. I was just trying to find one.

I do agree! If you must have one, however, check out UltraEdit at
www.ultraedit.com - it seems to be the alternative of choice for TextPad users, including myself, I admit, when TP can't measure up.
