Disk Full error

I am trying to load a large 400 MB text file into textpad. I get the following error:
Disk full while accessing c:\filename

Is there a size limit in Textpad, or is the file bad? It will not open in notepad either, but that is expected. It does open in WinWord.
There are several GB free on the drive.

How much space is left on the drive where your system temp folder is located?

Please, don't email if the discussion is not really private, Steve. Others might profit or be able to offer more help.

Ok, 4GB on temp left...

What about the swap file? Could this be the problem? Is there enough space left wherever the swap file is located? Or is its maximum size exceeded when you load the 400MB file?

I increased the swap file size to 500 MB. Now I get the error:
File Failed to Load

Steve,

As much as I hate to say it, there are times when I leave my beloved TextPad for another: Programmer's File Editor. When I am trying to open up really giganormous files I use PFE as it doesn't seem to choke, at least on my Win2K machine. Better snap up a copy as it seems to be one of those freeware apps that are fading away.

Let me be quick to add that opening large files may be a function of the Windows OS or my particular machine's configuration in conjunction with TextPad -- I don't really know how TextPad deals with files in memory. Usualy TextPad works fine on my Win2K machine with about a 1 GB paging file and 384 MB RAM up to around a file size of 300 MB or so.

I have never had any problems loading up files in textpad no matter of the size. After reading this forum, I generated a 1GB file, and finally, my system choked! However, my system configuration is a little on the extravagent side. With 1GB of memory, and a 1GB paging file allocation, any size file seems to open fine... until 1 GB is seems. ;) I have always got at least 40GB disk space free as well though. I usually load up large log files for searching through. (Don't ask)...

Thats my 2 bits!
