But you cannot script macros, edit macros or program macros.

Judging from this forum, it has been the number one feature request for at least 3 years. Judging from this forum, all that can be said on this issue has already been said. Judging from this forum, there is no ETA or Statement of Direction mentioning this enhancement. Judging from this forum, TextPad users are as a group very patient or simply resigned.

It basically meets my need as a programming tool. If I need a text mangler I'll resort to sed, awk, perl or something like them.

Then again, it shouldn't be a big deal to provide a visual basic interface, which is what more and more windows applications are doing for their macro scripting.

visual basic interface....
horrible thinking...

Better some language with C like syntax for instance JavaScript
which is more and more widely used....

I was dragged kicking and screaming back into the MS world. The last time I did serious work with windows was with 3.1.

Let's think standards, now. If it's a windows tool, which TextPad is, it should use the same scripting language all other tools use. I thought I left basic in school. Now it's there, it's established and it does the job. If I want to keep my job, I will continue to learn to use it so I can do the tasks my employer asks of me.

If TextPad imlements a VB interface, it will be lowering the learning curve for todays developers and so will increase its chance of making it into the industry.

BTW, I only run Linux at home.

At this point I'd take BAL or Ancient Mayan -- even VB. As long as it is edittable!

In TextPad!

Carlyle, judging from the content and verve of your replies, your loss is our gain.

Welcome!

Thanks Roy!

It's not really a loss. I still work on unix. It was an unwanted enhancment of my job description. Mastering it makes me a more valuable employee.
