Preserving TP Configuration

A quick question for the TP guros out there:

I need to find out how TP stores its configuration. (I'm assuming registry entries.) If the conf is stored in the registry can someone post a list of the keys that I would need to export to keep my settings between installs?

If the conf is kept in files somewhere, could someone post a list of the files I need to back up.

I'm one of those people that has to format their computer about every two months and I have an extremely extensive configuration for TP (it takes about an hour and a half to bring it back to my settings). I need to be able to restore all the document class settings and (hopefully) keep syntax definition settings intact (with the exception of the definition files, of course). It would also be nice, but not necessary, to keep my workspace and toolbars the same.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Zac

Most of the preferences are stored away in the registry. Take a look at the help file under Contents -> How to -> Customise settings -> Transferring between PCs.
(for TP 4.5)

Murray,

Thanks alot for the quick response. I guess with all the junk software out there that has nothing in the help menu, I've stopped looking there to get simple answers.

Many thanks to the TP team for such a great tool that really puts a tremendous amount of power in the hands of Windows users that is usually only seen in editors like Emacs and VI.

Has anyone tried to Transfer Preferences from a Win98 PC to one running XP? I purchased a new PC that is running XP Home and would like to pull the customized preferences from the old PC to this new one. Both have TextPad 4.5.

Thanks, Mike.

I can't help but express curiosity about what settings you use-- I know I'm not squeezing all the utility out of TextPad. Your settings might help me wring out more than I have been.

I didn't realize that that information was in the online help. But I've been doing that all along. However I've found that for some reason the "associated documents" settings don't get put in the Registry on the new machine. They're there in the exported Registry file, I've opened it up in Textpad and looked, but when I run Textpad on the new PC or open it's Registry the document associations are gone. All of them too! Does anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?
