Copy and Paste HEX

Hi all.
Is it posible to open a file in HEX mode, copy it, and then paste it into a new text document?
I have done this before by opening a .gif and clicking ctrl+A(select all) the clicking ctrl+c(copy) then ctrl+v(paste). This would open a new document and paste the hex code as a single line string. ie: 05A0242B0014002B3C2010 etc..
The problem is that this only happened a few times then it simply stopped doing it!
If there is a way of opening a HEX file as a single line string or converting a file into this format please let me know.
The version of textpad i have is 4.4 and I am working on a win2000 box.
