Loss of data in TextPad 4.5

Hi

I downloaded an evaluation of TextPad 4.5, but every time I save a (Java source) file a large chunk of code disapears from the begining of the file.

Anyone had the same/similar problem?

I am using:
NT 4 SP 6a
TextPad 4.5

Best regards

Ben

Having the privelege of being on the same OS as you, and having just installed the same version of Textpad, I just tested what you described, but I didn't encounter any such problems... Java source files as well as other types of files are being saved as they should.
I would describe exactly what you are modifying, doing (clicking/pressing/etc.) and seeing, step by step, to see if anyone can duplicate it.
I've yet to have a single problem with Textpad in my 4 years of frequent use.

Nothing much to it. All I do is open a Java file (double click on it), go to the first line press return (creates an empty line) and delete (the empty line just created). Press Save button in the toolbar (or Ctrl+S), then go to the Windows Explorer and Send To notepad, nothing is there if the file is too small (20 lines) or a large chunk is missing from the beginning if a large file (900 lines).

I also tried using Save As... but it does the same thing. It seems that the buffer is not written fully to the disk (it skips the firs XXX bytes).

First I thought it was my CVS doing something funny, but the same thing happens even if the file is not from CVS (the CVS server is a Linux box and I am using WinCVS on NT, so I thought it was something to do when transferring files from Unix to Windows).

Could it be because I am using an evaluation version?

Best regards

Benjamin

Talked to Tech Support. Looks like a problem with my virus checker. When Sophos was stopped all was OK where writing to disk. Started up Sophos again and lost the beginning of the file.

Had to go back to version 4.4.2 all is now OK.

Dave.

We had the same problem with "c" source files. We have gone back to 4.4.2.

When I make changes to small C test files in textpad 4.5, the whole file is saved as nulls

NT4 SP6?
Sophos anti virus software

Were they files with C program code or files containing the results of a C program execution? What was the file extension? What document class have you told TextPad to associate such files as? Does the saved file have the same extension? What font is used for that document class?

The answers may shed light on the problem.

I am experiencing this problem , but without Sophos active.
I lose the first part of the file when "save-as" used and the file name is changed.

TextPad 4.5.0 32-bit
OS is Win2K build 5.00.2195

Looks like I need 4.4
