File locking errors win2k + novell

I often get a fatal lockup when opening textpad files on a network drive (requires a hard reboot). The only other application which occasionally exhibits similar symptoms is my Compaq Visual Fortran compiler. This always occurs when opening a file. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I have tried various patches and settings on the novell server and the client (4.8) at the suggestions of Novell sys ops but so far no luck.

It's happening to me on network drives too under Win2K. But our drives are Win2K and not Novell.
