ME context menu fails to run Textpad

I know of at least one other person to whom this happens - anyone out there got a fix?

If I right click on a file and choose Textpad, it hangs the windwos explorer - whereas if I right click and use open with...Textpad or send to textpad it is OK ...

any clues? I guess I have to simple solutions there in the question, but I keep going for the quckest method (only re-starting explorer slows it down somewhat!!)

Cheers

Pat

Just a guess: you have MS Outlook running, and the command to open the Textpad uses DDE.
MS Outlook is known to "eat" or "block" DDE messages destined for other programs.
If you have MS Outlook running, stop it and check whether the problem still exists.
If so, change the command to run textpad not to use DDE.

Thanks

Outlook not running (for countless other good reasons, although interfering with TP would be a good enough one to scrap it.)

I'm not sure how to change the settings for a context menu item - I suspect it is a registry edit. I will give it a try and report back...

Did you find a solution to this problem?

I have the same problem on win 98!

You would change this using the file types settings, and the open action, for textpad, I think....

In Textpad:

Configure Menu->Preferences Command->General->
Uncheck Context Menu
Apply
Check Context Menu
Apply

No more crashes - so far.

Thanks.

Not many people manage to make me feel stupid, but you just managed it!

Excellent, works like a dream, and exactly what I would have suggested to myself if I had noticed it sitting there in the options!

thanks again
