Save problem with 4.3.2

Textpad 4.3.2 is behaving oddly when editing files on a certain network drive.
Did not happen with 4.3.0.
Do not have the problem with local files or files on other network drives.

If 'Prompt' is specified when files are modified by another process, continually
get 'Reload?' prompt, though no other application is modifying the files.

When I save (Ctl-S), or autosave kicks in, instead of saving normally,
it brings up the 'Save As' menu, and when I click 'Save', says <file> 'already
exists. Do you want to replace it?'

Possible Registry foulup? Reason I suspect this is that I was working with
files this drive under 4.3.0 when Textpad crashed. I'd had a continuing
problem (not specific to this drive or to W2K: also happens on W98)
with Textpad just going away once in a while, usually when I'd been doing
extensive editing and had 6 or 7 files open. After such a crash occurred,
I went to your site to look for information, and found the new release.
Installed it over 4.3.0, and began having the reload/save problems. Reboot
did not help. If this is the problem, I guess an uninstall and fresh install
of Textpad will fix it?

I also have the "Do you want to reload"-problem since upgrading to 4.3.2. For some reasons not known to me it does only happen with files on two computers in our network. It did not happen with any releases before 4.3.2

Hello

Our next release which should be available next week solves the update problems. It gives you a choice of 3 settings for checking file updates. The options are as follows:

01 : Turn off the option to check file size changes
02 : Turn on the option to ignore file time differences < 2 seconds.
03 : Do both of the above.

You will then be able to set the option to the one that works best for your system.

Kind Regards

Heidi-Marie

Are you sure that this will solve the problem? To us it appears that it might now be checking the time that the file was last accessed instead of when it was modified. The reason I say this is that we can save the file and then after a web server gets the file TextPad will ask to reload.

I also get the problem saving a new file. ASA I save a file for the first time, when TextPad is done writing it immediately notifies me that another application has modified the file and asks if I would like to reload. Working on Windows NT 4.something and the file server is a Unix box of some sort. I agree with Rob that it's an access versus modification time problem of some sort.

I'm looking forward to trying the fix, since the time difference makes sense in my environment:
my boxes (which I have no trouble with) run NTP daemons, and I wouldn't be astonished if the
host of the problematic drive does not. btw, I don't think this is OS-specific, since I have the
same problem when accessing this drive on W98 and W2K.
Fix doesn't seem to be out there yet, or have I missed it??
