Can colours be defined in the syntax definition files?

It would be nice to be able to declare the colours and associated tool commands (i.e. for compilers) for each file type within the same file. The menus could be updated for the currently selected document.

That's actually defined in the Textpad application itself... go to Configure > Preferences, and under Document Classes, look under the appropriate category in the Colors section.
