Backup/Restore

How do I enable the "Restore" option? Backup/Restore is enabled on one machine. I did the Backup there.

On a new machine, I installed 9.8 & was hoping I could just Restore settings. But the Restore option is disabled.

How is this feature supposed to work?

Replying to myself to answer this here.

Contrary to the release notes for 9.8:
Added commands to the Configure menu to backup and restore the license key, settings, macros and clip libraries.
Backup/Restore cannot restore a license key. I had to install my license first, then the Backup & Restore options were enabled.

On a positive note, so far it seems most everything has restored. The exception is that it did not include my custom .syn files from the 'System' folder of the installation. But, the preferences for the Document Classes that use them all came across and are working after copying the missing .syn files manually.

Backup/restore is only enabled for licensed users. However, you've discovered the flaw in that, which will be fixed in the next release.

TextPad's System folder is meant to be read-only, as it is overwritten by each update. You should save your custom syntax definitions in the folder defined for them under Configuration » Preferences » Folders, and then they will be backed up.

Good to know. lol, these have been collecting there since 1999 or so. With each upgrade or new system I was using, I was always copying files and Reg settings manually so they just stayed there.
