Saved Textpad 9 document showing up blank

I'm a long-time user (probably 20 years) of various versions of Textpad and have never had any serious problems with it - but I recently switched to TextPad 9, and twice in the past month have encountered a previously unknown-to-me problem, in which I open a TextPad document hours or days after saving and closing it, only to find that the document looks blank!

In the most recent case, the Document Properties show 17,971 characters for the TextPad 9 document but just 1 line (!). There is no entry for number of words. I've tried scrolling, selecting (to copy and paste any "invisible" text into a fresh document) and other steps, but cannot seem to view and access the information from the original TextPad document.

Has anyone experienced this before or heard of the problem, and if so, what (if any) is the solution, and what in the world causes the problem?

Do you have the latest release of TextPad 9?

Can you see the contents of the file in Notepad?

What do you see, if you open the file in Binary Mode?

What encoding does the file have?

I've tried ... selecting ... text

Have you done so via mouse or via Ctrl+A or via window menu? (In full sequence: Ctrl+A for selecting all text, then Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Ins to copy the selection.)
