TextPad 8.8.1 registered
if I have 1 or several files open (within a single instance) then close each one in turn, after saving, TextPad restarts by itself with the last-closed file.

You could try upgrading to TextPad 8.10.

If that doesn't help,what is the file extension you are using? If it's a *.tws file, try unchecking the option to "Reload last workspace at startup".
