Hello again,

This is just to make known the apparent (to me with just a few experiences) fact that old clip books do not save with unicode characters intact. They exibit the old problem. Paste clip with Unicode characters, Save Book, close TP, open TP, the Unicode Characters come up as ????

A new book must be created.

Hrm, as per the help file (How to... > Use the Clip Library > Direct Editing) the header !CHARSET nowhere supports UTF-8 or any other Unicode variant.

Only the release notes for 8.4.0 announce that creation in UTF-8 is possible (most likely by directly editing the file, not interacting with a Clip Library thru the UI).

And as per your own topic with the short and vacant title "8.4" you already successfully created and used a Clip Library in Unicode. Do you want to say that 8.4.1 broke it again? Or did you forget what you did 2 months ago?

Maybe only the help is outdated, maybe editing a Clip Library thru the UI mixes up the text encoding with the textual header instruction. How about not supporting any other charset than UTF-8 anymore, so TextPad has not to deal with all permutations? Only allow/store UTF-8, no more CHARSET header, everything's done.

Hello Amigo,

I had the vague feeling I had brought this up before.

I do not follow your remarks. They are a bit beyond my understanding.

The Clip Libraray is fine, and if you use a book created after the upgrade things are fine. The problem is with adding unicode characters to an old book made before the upgrade.

It is not in insurmountable problem, one only needs to create new books where there will be unicode characters, but it took me by surprise as I thought the issue was completely resolved.

Are you saying to edit the clip-book file directly? I think we did try that at one point and it didn't take. I will try it again, but not tonight.
