When I try to open a file the window that pops up with the files in the current folder is full screen, how do I get it back to being less than full screen mode?

In the Open File(s) window:
Double click the top border
or
Right-click the top border and choose Restore
or
Left-click the TextPad icon and choose Restore
or
Enter <Alt-Space, R>
This is not specific to TextPad.

Thanks! Tried the right-click / Restore & that worked.
What did you mean by not Textpad specific. When Textpad was doing this no other program had the same problem.
Also, what could I have done that caused this to happen? Any ideas?
I've had a number of "fat finger" problems like this one where I do something, no idea what, but eventually find a way to fix it & then eventually figure out what fat-finger combo is causing the problem.
Thanks!

That this maneuver can be applied to every window, because windows used to work just like that since at least 1990: you either minimize or maximize them, or "restore" them from either mode. Hover your mouse cursor over the three topright window buttons and read the hints. Repeat for a maximized/non-maximized window.

Maximizing a window can be achieved by ALT+SPACE (opening the system menu of the window), then hitting X (which is underscored for the "Maximize" item).
Likewise you could hit ALT+SPACE and then N to minimize a window.
