Is there a keyboard shortcut to close a file?
Have tried searching forum but may not have used right words.

Ctrl+F4 works, and is the traditional shortcut for closing a window in MDI applications.

I have remapped Ctrl+W (which normally moves the cursor to the start of the next word) to close the current file, which is more consistent with modern practice. You can change the keyboard shortcuts in Configure > Preferences > Keyboard.

Thanks for reply which has sorted it for me. The shortcut doesn't appear (unlike most) when File is opened.

...and I just noticed that each document's window shows the wrong shortcut for its system menu: ALT+F4. Other MDI applications do it as expected and display "CTRL+F4".

(the system menu is the window menu you get when you click on the window's icon, located at the topleft corner - works for every window: the parent or its MDI children)
