Where is the file for, "Configure/Preferences..."

I have an older version 5.2? and it no longer pays attention to the color settings in Preferences. I assume if I can delete the Preferences settings file I can once again change these. I assume it is in the same place for version 8?

Oh, also, I'm not installing textpad I simply copied my textpad folder and use it from a flash drive on other computers as I need it. The one computer I use every day is the one I have to fix. (Or, is the file on the flash drive someplace?)
