DELL Windows 8 File Path

I just purchased a DELL Windows 8 PC. I installed Textpad 7.10 and set it to replace notepad.
I can't open a Textpad file on the desktop by tapping on it.
When I tap on the file it always asks me if I want to create the file c:\users\myname, not the name of the file.
I can open it using 'Open with'.
If the file is my \temp folder it opens fine by tapping on it.
