enhancement suggestion: force wordwap to off

Please point me to the discussion if this is an old request.
I have macros that will only work when block mode is on, but I do not know how to detect the setting. After I have been editting for a while, it could possibly be set either way, so the startup options do not work here.
My first choice is to be able to set blockmode (and wordwrap) to the setting I want instead of just toggling back and forth.
